ATTORNEY CARLOS JURADO

Attorney Carlos Jurado was born in Los Angeles, California. He was born to Mexican parents who had recently migrated to the United States. His mother was a laborer and his father was a member of a Mariachi band. He was raised in South Central Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Compton, California. His passion for immigration law was first ignited by the passing of Proposition 187 in California when he was in elementary School. He recalls the subsequent fear that crippled his community. He resolved that he would do anything he could to prevent any persecutions of his community and he used that drive to gain admission into the University of California at Berkeley.

Carlos graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Rhetoric. After Berkeley, he spent time as a congressional staffer working in a House of Representatives office in Washington D.C. Prior to attending law school, he was the lead case analyst for a consumer protection law firm that specialized in plaintiff side lemon law cases.

Carlos graduated from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. During law school, Carlos was a law clerk in the Social Enterprise & Economic Empowerment Clinic and the Business Tax Clinic, where he worked as lead counsel with small businesses, nonprofits, and social enterprises. In addition, he was a member of Yale Law School's Center for Community & Economic Development, where he worked with corporations, nonprofits, and serviced real estate deals. Carlos authored and published a law journal note, which argued for the creation and enablement of a fourth sector comprised of businesses with social purposes.

When Carlos is not hard at work for his clients, he is usually spending time with his wife and their two kids. They enjoy traveling, finding new adventures, and trying new foods. In addition, Carlos spends his spare time watching boxing matches and cheering on his favorite sports teams: The California Golden Bears, The Los Angeles Lakers, The Los Angeles Dodgers, and his favorite sports team; The Oakland Raiders.

Carlos is a fluent Spanish speaker. He is licensed to practice law in the state of Michigan.
